Campnosperma panamense – Sajo

The mature tree is reported to be medium size, attaining heights of up to 28 m, and trunk diameters of 50 cm in the average. The trees often develop straight cylindrical boles that are free of branches for about 13 m. This species is reported from the Atlantic lowlands of Costa Rica, down to Colombia.

Couma macrocarpa – Popa

It is a large tree, with lengths of 30 to 40 m and up to 100 cm of diameter. It has abundant creamy latex. It is reported from Guatemala, south to Brazil and Peru.

Hymenaea courbaril – Algarrobo

Tree 8 to 15 m high and 40 to 80 cm DBH. Trunk: straight, cylindrical. It is found from Mexico to southern Brazil, and also in Argentina, Bolivia, and Paraguay.

Podocarpus guatemalensis – Chaquiro

Tree 25 m tall with a diameter at chest height that reaches 60 cm. Straight and cylindrical trunk. In Central America it is common in the Atlantic zone, from Mexico to Venezuela.

Humiriastrum procerum – Chanú

Dominant tree within the forest, reaching heights of 40 m, with a diameter between 60 to 80 cm. It is found from Costa Rica, Panama, Guyanas, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, to Brazil. In Colombia it is found on the Pacific coast and in the basins of the Calima and Patía rivers.

Tabebuia guayacan – Corteza

Tree 20 to 40 m tall. The species grows at low and medium elevations, in dry, humid or very humid forests, from Mexico to Peru and Brazil. In Panama it is common in secondary forests and urban areas.

Dialyanthera gracilipes – Otobo

It reaches heights of 30 to 35 m, with a diameter of over 60 cm. It prefers the tropical freshwater swampy forests of the Pacific coast. Several species of this genus are reported to be distributed from Costa Rica and Panama through Venezuela, Colombia, and Peru.  

Vochysia guatemalensis – Cebo

Tree 10 to 40 m tall. The species grows at low and medium elevations, in humid or very humid forests. It goes from Mexico to Panama. In South America it is found in Colombia, Venezuela, Brazil and Peru.

Anacardium excelsum – Espavé

The trees are reported to reach heights of 23 to 30 m, with trunk diameters ranging from 75 to 90 cm. Trees up to 45 m and 150 cm of diameter have also been reported.  Wood diffuses porous. Vessels solitary and in short radial multiples. From southern Honduras south to Ecuador and east to Venezuela.
